Is Ping’s PLD putter program worth the money? I went through the process.

It's possible to personalize your PLD putter.

The $1,290 price tag attached to Ping’s custom PLD putter will stop some golfers in their tracks, but depending on the head material and machining process, putters can be expensive.

But four figures expensive? It’s a price threshold some golfers are willing to entertain — provided the juice (or in this case the putter) is worth the squeeze.

When I reported on Ping’s PLD line back in March, I received an influx of messages from golfers wondering if the custom fitting process was worth the money. The PLD custom program mirrors the same process Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland and Bubba Watson go through when they come to Ping headquarters for a putter fitting.

I’d argue it’s the closest thing weekend golfers can get to a Tour-level experience in the industry.

With multiple steps in the putter creation process, simply writing about the extensive fitting wouldn’t do the program justice in this case. I needed to make a trip to Arizona and experience it for myself. (It’s important to note you can also schedule a virtual putter fitting with one of Ping’s master fitters.)

In the video below, you’ll get a chance to see the entire process, from the biometrics captured inside Ping’s Putting Lab — the same room at headquarters where pros work on their putting — to the outdoor testing session that confirms the putter you’ve been testing is the best fit for your game.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a Tour pro for a day, this is your chance to make that dream a reality.
