Use this basic grip technique for better club control

There are a lot of beginner tips that players must understand before picking up the game of golf. But the most obvious is the proper grip, which will, ultimately, determine how efficient a player hits the ball.

When a player has too weak of a grip, they may find their shots being sprayed all over the golf course. This typically results in slicing the ball — an all-too-common issue that many new players often experience.

To help demonstrate what the correct golf club grip looks like, instructor Gia Liwski shares some tips to follow. By incorporating Liwski’s advice, players should see both more control and power with each shot.

Do this for the perfect grip

As Liwski explains in the video, the most important part of any grip is to just stand tall and relax your arms, with your thumbs hanging inward.

“Go ahead and grip the club in your fingers,” she says. “It’s going to sit underneath this pad here [points to her palm], and your thumb will go on the opposite side of the golf club.”

Now that you’ve got the club in your hand, Liwski goes on to demonstrate how a strong grip should appear.

“On your lead hand is two knuckles; that would be considered a strong grip. If I moved my hand under, and we see a lot of players come underneath to add that lead hand, that would be a weak grip. That would make it more challenging to release the club — so you might hit a lot of golf shots to the right if your left hand is too weak.”

“Turn that [left] hand over so you can see those two knuckles, and let your arms relax.”

By implementing the golf club grip Liwski shows in the video, golfers will begin to see more efficient shots — which will make every round a lot more enjoyable.
