Power was a hot talking point this year in golf. First, it was the distance insights report and what it meant for the future of the game. Then, Bryson DeChambeau’s bulk-up in a search for distance was all the rage. When he won at the U.S. Open later in the summer, there was talk of it being a turning point in the sport.

And while power in the professional game was of utmost interest, there was equal intrigue on how to add power to your own game. With GOLF.com’s mission to serve our readers and help improve their games, we did our best to cater to that power interest. Who wouldn’t want to mash the ball like Bryson?

One of the articles that attempted to help our readers in the power game was titled “Here’s the shaft flex you should play based on your swing speed” and gave our readers a simple look at how to pair gear with skill level. It was one of our most-read articles on the entire site in 2020.

The article came about after some collaboration with our friends over at True Spec Golf as they allowed us access to some data that they utilize when going through the fitting process. (Ed note: GOLF.com and True Spec are owned by the same parent company, 8AM Golf.) You can see the chart we utilized below, or you can read the entire article here.
