What’s the secret to getting your pitch shots to spin? Top 100 Teachers share their tips

Every golfer wants to hit pitch shots that stop on a dime, but it's easier said than done.

There’s nothing quite like hitting a pitch shot that takes a couple hops and stops right next to the hole. It’s a shot that pros make look routine, but for the weekend warrior, it’s not so easy.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to achieve, though. All you need to do is use the right technique. Here’s the secret, according to three GOLF Top 100 Teachers.

Lou Guzzi

Getting pitch shots to spin is easy. Set up with your hands and arms closer to your body and open your clubface and stance. Add a little juice through impact too. (Just be sure to swing in the direction of your stance.)

Michael Hunt

First, use a premium golf ball. Second, set up with at least 60 percent of your weight on your front foot and keep it there as you swing, finishing around your front hip.

Joe Plecker

Make sure your clubface is squeaky clean. It helps. As for the swing, favor a shallow path over a steep one. I know it seems counterintuitive, but brushing the turf — not digging into it — is what creates short-game spin.
