The leader hadn’t played for two weeks. The rust showed. For two holes. Here are three things you need to know after the first round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Bryson DeChambeau leads

Bryson DeChambeau, two weeks after his U.S. Open victory, parred his first hole. He parred his second. He then played his next eight holes at 7-under on his way to a 9-under 62, tied for his low round on the PGA Tour, and a one-shot lead over Patrick Cantlay, Harold Varner III, Nate Lasley, Austin Cook and Scott Herrington.

“Yeah, it was a great day to play well,” DeChambeau said. “There’s no wind out here for the most part and feel like you can bomb it everywhere and hit wedges close. And I was lucky enough to make a lot of putts to start off my day.”

18 players are within three shots of the lead

Cantlay, Varner, Lashley, Cook and Herrington made two bogeys among them, and each shot 63s.

Brian Stuard, Emiliano Grillo, Andrew Landry, Rob Oppenheim, James Hahn and Bronson Burgoon each shot 64s, and Sepp Straka, Brian Harman, Brice Garnett, Zach Johnson, Cameron Davis, Martin Laird and Louis Oosthuizen had 65s. In all, 18 players were within three shots of the lead.

Nearly every player shoots par or better

In all, 126 of the 144 players in the field shot par or better.

Among the players who shot 66 was last week’s winner, Sergio Garcia; Rickie Fowler and Cameron Champ shot 67s; Matthew Wolff a 68; and PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa a 69.
