Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson earned the most money to beat Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff in the TaylorMade Driving Relief charity skins match on Sunday. But hey, this was for charity. We are all winners!
As pro golf returned to TV on Sunday at Seminole, we saw plenty of highs (the course itself) and even some lows (the Bill Murray interview), but there were also several light-hearted moments that made it a pretty good way to spend an afternoon. Here’s a roundup of the wackiest, funniest and most relatable for the common golfer. Enjoy!
1. Pro golfers, they are just like us!
The foursome already looked like a few guys you’d see at your local course (but with more logos) since caddies weren’t allowed and they had to carry their own stand bags. Johnson looked every bit more relatable when he either didn’t have or forgot a ball marker on the 1st green and instead used a tee. Monday men’s leagues everywhere were applauding.
2. Where’s Austin?
Not to pick on DJ, but here is one more. Johnson is used to having his brother, Austin Johnson, carrying his bag, so don’t give DJ too much grief for almost forgetting his bag on the 18th tee.
3. Trash talk … kind of?
Apparently Wolff wasn’t ready to give this putt to McIlroy, so McIlroy let him hear it. Now, was it forced trash talk to mention the FedEx Cup when McIlroy could be touting his four major titles instead? Maybe. But who cares either way. It was fun to watch some golf.
4. Leave Matthew Wolff alone
This bee did not.
