Are LIV Golf players allowed at the Masters?

The short and sweet answer is yes, several members of LIV Golf will be teeing it up at the Masters this week.

Augusta National Golf Club released a statement on Dec. 20, 2022, which outlined its position for the upcoming tournament.

“Regrettably, recent actions have divided men’s professional golf by diminishing the virtues of the game and the meaningful legacies of those who built it,” it said. “Although we are disappointed in these developments, our focus is to honor the tradition of bringing together a preeminent field of golfers this coming April. Therefore, as invitations are sent this week, we will invite those eligible under our current criteria to compete in the 2023 Masters Tournament.”

That meant if a player had met any of the criteria to qualify — as in a PGA Tour win, was a past Masters champion or was ranked high enough in the Official World Golf Ranking — Augusta National would not keep them out just because they are under contract with LIV Golf.

The statement did add one interesting caveat at the end, though.

“As we have said in the past, we look at every aspect of the Tournament each year, and any modifications or changes to invitation criteria for future Tournaments will be announced in April,” it read.

Does that mean new qualifications are coming in the future? Who knows, but for now, 18 LIV players will tee it up alongside their PGA Tour rivals at Augusta National for the 2023 Masters.
