Bryson DeChambeau won’t be at Bay Hill to defend his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. DeChambeau shared a 73-second video to his social media accounts on Monday morning announcing he’s withdrawing from the tournament, saying his game isn’t ready to compete.
DeChambeau, who has been battling a wrist and hip injury, said he’s still not fully comfortable hitting golf balls.
“Man, tough decision right now,” he said. “I have a lot of work to do to get everything back in order this week. I just feel like it’s too short of time for me to get back to 100 percent and playing at 100-percent capacity. Right now I’m like 90 percent and I just don’t want to go out there and hurt myself even more and not be 100 percent ready for the rest of the season.”
DeChambeau has made three starts in 2022: a T25 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. He withdrew from the Saudi International in early February, citing a wrist and hip injury.
DeChambeau added he’ll try and play next week’s Players Championship.
“I want to get back out there as soon as possible, it’s just not ready yet,” he said.
