He started the final round two shots out of the lead. Schauffele won the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in 2018. He started the final round three shots out of the lead. Schauffele won the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions. He started the final round five shots out of the lead.

Four wins. Four rallies.

Schauffele started the third round of this week’s CJ Cup with a three-shot lead. He shot a 2-over 74. And is now three shots out of the lead.

Much better.

“Yeah, it’s all part of my master plan,” he said Saturday, tongue-in-cheek. “Just had to get behind here, back in a comfortable place and looking forward to tomorrow.”

Schauffele, along with Lanto Griffin, Talor Gooch and Jason Kokrak, trails leader Russell Henley by three shots entering Sunday’s final round at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. Henley, Griffin and Gooch tee off last, at 2:27 p.m. ET. Schauffele, Kokrak and Jason Day tee off second-to-last, at 2:16 p.m.
