On Tuesday, Davis Love III announced that he would be stepping away from his job as a full-time golf analyst for CBS Sports’ golf broadcasts.
In a statement released on Twitter, Love explained that when the PGA Tour returned in June, CBS allowed him to take some time off to “focus on my family, play a few tournaments, and bring some stability back in a difficult year.”
“I have realized in this time my passion to play is still strong, and my heart yearns to be home,” Love wrote.
Love thanked CBS for the “tremendous opportunity” to join the broadcast, adding that he is “in awe of the amazing work they produce.” He then called out a few specific members of the CBS Sports team for their support.
“I thank Sean, David, Harold and Lance and all the people at CBS Sports for their support and understanding and allowing me to step away from CBS. Beginning next week at the PGA Championship my focus returns to playing, and supporting my family,” Love wrote.
Last October, CBS announced that Love would be joining the broadcast to cover the PGA Tour, PGA Championship and Masters. The announcement came shortly after CBS decided against renewing the contracts of longtime analysts Gary McCord and Peter Kostis. He made his debut on the CBS Sports broadcast at the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open in January.
The 56-year-old veteran counts the 1997 PGA Championship among his 21 Tour victories, the last coming at the 2015 Wyndham Championship.
Love has played in eight Tour events in the 2019-20 season, making only one cut, a 66th-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. He has played three events since the Tour returned in June, missing the cut at the RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship and WorkDay Charity Open.
