Major champion Gary Woodland announced on Wednesday he’ll have surgery to remove a lesion that was found on his brain.

Woodland said the surgery is Sept. 18.

“I was diagnosed a few months ago and have been trying to treat symptoms with medication,” he said in a statement posted to X, previously Twitter. “After consulting with multiple specialists and discussing with my family, we’ve made the decision that surgery to remove the lesion is the best course of action.

“I’m in good spirits with my family and team by my side and so thankful for the love and support of everyone,” he continued.

Woodland, 39, just completed his 15th year on the PGA Tour. He had two top-10s and six top-25s last season, finishing the year with a T27 at the Wyndham Championship to miss the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Woodland has won four times on Tour, and his last victory was also his only major title. He won the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by three strokes over Brooks Koepka.
