If you haven’t heard it by now, we’ll repeat it one more time for the record: 50-year-old Phil Mickelson won the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Sunday night, becoming the oldest major champion in the process.

Most players — old enough to play on the Champions Tour or otherwise — would have spent such a historic night celebrating with friends and family and a few cocktails, or at least getting some much-deserved sleep after grinding it out over 72 holes in the South Carolina heat.

But Phil Mickelson is not most players. So instead of getting some R&R after his big win, Phil opted for a different mode of celebration: hanging out on Twitter and replying to congratulatory tweets into the wee hours while flying home. Or as he put it, “Sipping wine, half lit, tweeting. Life is good.”

The now six-time major champion kept his responses brief, with many of his tweets featuring a single word, but he packed in plenty of his trademark dry humor. And he didn’t just mix it up with Tour pros, like Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Harry Higgs, Eddie Pepperell and more. Many random golf fans were shocked to see replies from the Hall of Famer just hours after his career-defining victory.

Below you can see a sample of some of the best responses Phil offered the golf world on Sunday night.
