The music world and the United Kingdom in general is still buzzing from some shocking news that dropped this week: Oasis, the biggest British band since the Beatles, announced a long-awaited and unexpected reunion tour.

The band, which features infamously feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher and broke up 15 years ago, have long declared they’d never get back together, so the news has fans across the world excited. You can count Irish major champion Shane Lowry among them.

But as he found out this week, not everyone is as tuned in to the big news as Lowry is, including one golf reporter who encountered the 2019 Open winner ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Fanduel’s Ali McCann caught up with Lowry earlier this week to ask him a non-golf question: what celebrity would he like to have a drink with and why?

It didn’t take long for Lowry to answer: “I’d love to have a drink with Oasis.”

When McCann appeared confused by his answer, Lowry followed up saying, “You know Oasis are back together? You know Oasis?”

“I don’t… no,” an increasingly embarrassed McCann replied.

“You don’t know who Oasis are? Oh my God! On my god! You’re obviously way younger than me,” Lowry said as McCann apologized for her ignorance. “Like this is the biggest news ever. You need to look up Oasis.”

After McCann promised to look up the band after the interview, a still incredulous Lowry turned toward someone off camera, and repeated his shock.

“Doesn’t know who Oasis are. Doesn’t know Oasis,” Lowry said, smiling. “This is, like, blasphemy.”

“I just ruined this whole interview, I’m so sorry,” McCann shot back.

To which a laughing Lowry replied, “This is going to make it good though.”

Lowry, who is playing in his first Tour Championship this week, is at seven under through two rounds and in line for a nice FedEx Cup payday on Sunday evening.

The Oasis reunion tour, which will see the Gallagher brothers on stage together for the first time since 2009, kicks off next summer in the U.K.
