A top college player is heading to LIV Golf.
David Puig, a senior at Arizona State, announced on Instagram on Monday that he’s turning pro but will stay at ASU to finish his degree.
Puig thanked his coaches and teammates in a lengthy social media post.
“So many more people have helped me over the past few years and I know my success wouldn’t be the same without everyone,” he said. “You’ve helped me to grow and improve in this great program, not only as a player, but also as a person. I’ve loved every minute of it. Thank you!”
The 20-year-old Spaniard did not say where he was going to play professionally, but it’s no secret. He’s played in two LIV Golf events as an amateur and is listed in the field for LIV Golf’s event this week at Rich Harvest Farms outside of Chicago. Puig is listed on team Torque along with Joaquin Niemann, Scott Vincent and Jediah Morgan.
In his two LIV starts, Puig finished 40th (in London) and 42nd (at Bedminster).
He turns pro while ranked as the No. 9 amateur in the world. He was also a two-time All-American at ASU.
