Travelers Championship leaderboard: Xander Schauffele sets personal best

The 2022 Travelers Championship is through 54 holes, and Sunday is shaping up to be an exciting day.

Here’s what you need to know to get caught up on Saturday’s action.

Xander’s personal best

Xander Schauffele’s first 48 holes of the Travelers Championship were, well, flawless. Schauffele didn’t drop a shot over the first 48 holes, carding no worse than par. The bogey-free stretch was his personal-best to start a tournament and helped him climb to the top of the leaderboard.

The streak eventually came to an end when Schauffele made bogey on the par-5 13th, but he bounced back with two birdies over his last five holes to maintain a one-shot lead heading into Sunday.

Cantlay closes the gap

Patrick Cantlay began the day five shots behind Schauffele’s 36-hole lead, but heading into Sunday, he’s just one shot back. Cantlay’s third-round 63 was four better than Schauffele on Saturday, and it has him within striking distance heading into the final round.

“I thought I played really well today — I think lowest of the day,” Cantlay said. “No real mistakes. I could have made a few more putts, but all in all it was a great round.”

Cantlay will be looking for his eighth PGA Tour victory on Sunday, while Schauffele tries for his sixth.

Theegala in the mix

There’s plenty of starpower at the top of the leaderboard, but don’t sleep on Sahith Theegala. The rookie is just three shots back after his third-round 64 and he’ll be looking for his first career win.

“I’m definitely going to be nervous, definitely going to be excited,” Theegala said. “Every single week I’m out here I feel like I’m getting more and more comfortable. So I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

Theegala is looking to become just the second rookie to win on Tour this season.
