Superstitious pro hilariously wears same outfit on back-to-back days

Evan Harmeling might just be the hero the Korn Ferry Tour needs — if not the one it wants to smell.

This weekend, Harmeling posited himself into the superstition hall of fame at the Savannah Golf Championship for his outfit selection. But it wasn’t a rabbit’s foot or a four-leaf clover in his pocket, nor some other form of lucky charm. No, after a third-round 67 vaulted him into the 54-hole lead, Harmeling elected to bring every portion of his mojo back to the golf course with him for Sunday’s final round. Included in that mojo? His entire outfit from Saturday’s round, right down to the socks (we can only hope he had two pairs).

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But perhaps wash it?

We can only hope Harmeling — a former member of the Princeton golf team — found a washing machine at his rental late yesterday evening. But hey, genius takes many forms, and perhaps this mustard-colored tactic is one of them.

After all, this is FAR from the first time we’ve seen a golfer resort to a lucky outfit for a Sunday round. Between Tiger’s Sunday Red and Phil’s Sunday Black, an entire generation of golfers were raised to believe in the power of the polo. And in Harmeling’s defense, the superstition has proven successful to this point. The 32-year-old Boston native remains firmly in the thick of things, tied for the lead at 19 under through eight holes on Sunday.

A win this weekend would be Harmeling’s first on the Korn Ferry Tour, and the Savannah Golf Championship’s $108,000 winner’s check would more than double his on-course earnings from 2020. Most importantly, a sizeable check deposited to Harmeling’s bank account should more than cover the tab for his twice-worn outfit to be properly dry-cleaned, once the dust settles.
