Good news to those of you who plan to watch the latest edition of The Match tonight (or are watching it right now). You too can play host venue The Park West Palm, and it’s the least expensive — *albeit still a pretty penny! — of all nine Match host courses we’ve see yet.
Let’s break it down. How much will a round at The Park West Palm in West Palm Beach, Fla., run you? For starters, it just recently underwent a $55 million makeover, so this isn’t your typical scruffy muni. At least not anymore. But if you are local, or even in Florida, you are going to save some serious cash compared to out-of-staters. Florida residents can play for $180 during the week or for $188 on the weekend, while West Palm Beach residents can buy city resident cards for $25 to unlock $100 weekday greens fees.
As for out-of-state golfers? That price is significantly higher. Those players can only book 10 days in advance, and tee times are $230 during the week and $248 on the weekend.
The Park West Palm also has some other add-ons or restrictions to be aware of. For example, tee times before noon are walking only, and caddies are mandatory before 9 a.m. They cost $120 a player ($100 for city cardholders), or a forecaddie is $65 a bag. Carts (when allowed, based on time of day and season) are $30 a player.
Juniors (age 17 and under) who live in West Palm Beach get to play for $20 a round, while all other juniors still get tee times discounted by 25 percent.
There’s also a cheaper, more family-friendly version of The Park West Palm in The Lit 9, a 9-hole par-3 that costs $30 max and can be played at dusk under the lights. Kids under 12 are free, juniors are $10 and city cardholders are $20. The nearby Putting Course, however, is complementary.
So a round at West Palm Beach, mostly for non-Floridians, isn’t exactly cheap. But if it makes you feel any better, it’s a fraction of the price you’ll find at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, host of the Players Championship in a few weeks, which carries a peak rate of $900.
